Good plumbing, past and present

06/13/2009

Good plumbing, ever since we first dug a ditch or hollowed out a log, has been important to the human experience. John William Gardner, past president of the Carnegie Corporation said: “The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity, and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because philosophy is an exalted activity, will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water.” There’s no reason to think that the future will diminish the importance of plumbers and plumbing.
